in news •  7 years ago

Loss generated may exceed R $ 3 million mark

The Bithumb bitcoins exchange, located in South Korea and fourth largest of its kind in the world, was the target of a hacker attack that exposed data from its 30,000 customers, and caused a financial loss in the billions. Despite the breadth of the attack, financial institution ensures that the problem did not hit its servers, but only the machine of a single employee.

"An employee's computer, not the primary server, has been hacked," Bithumb said in a statement sent to BraveNewCoin's crypto-currency website. "Personal information, such as the phone number and email address of some users, has been leaked. However, some customers noticed that they were stolen because the stolen password was used in electronic financial transactions. "

The attacks also included phone scams with some Bithumb clients claiming to have been contacted by some alleged bank employee in order to obtain personal information.
