Today is the International Day Against Drug Abuse - hoax or legit?

in news •  8 years ago

Monday, or 26 June, is observed as the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The General Assembly decided to observe this day, in 1987, as an expression of its determination to strengthen action and cooperation to achieve the goal of an international society free of drug abuse.

Despite the risks and challenges inherent in tackling this global problem, I hope and believe we are on the right path, and that together we can implement a coordinated, balanced and comprehensive approach that leads to sustainable solutions.
said UN Secretary-General António Guterres .

Last year, at the UN General Assembly Special Session on the World Drug Problem (UNGASS), the international community took steps to mobilise a multifaceted, collective response to the full range of issues related to drug abuse and illicit trafficking. Governments came together to chart a new path forward that is more effective and humane, and leaves no one behind, said a statement released by UNODC.

According to the UNODC, nearly 200 million people are using illicit drugs such as cocaine, cannabis, hallucinogens, opiates and sedative hypnotics worldwide.

Together, we must honour the unanimous commitments made to reduce drug abuse, illicit trafficking and the harm that drugs cause, and to ensure that our approach promotes equality, human rights, sustainable development, and greater peace and security. UN Secretary General Antonio Guteress said in a statement released by UNODC.

Now this is a good cause on the paper. But why is alcohol still legal then?

Alcohol is a drug.

It is classed as a depressant, meaning that it slows down vital functions—resulting in slurred speech, unsteady movement, disturbed perceptions and an inability to react quickly. As for how it affects the mind, it is best understood as a drug that reduces a person’s ability to think rationally and distorts his or her judgment.

Why is tobacco legal?

Whats behind this war on drugs? As previously stated nearly 200 million people are using illicit drugs such as cocaine, cannabis, hallucinogens, opiates and sedative hypnotics worldwide. And that's a lot of people waking up. So we need a war on those people so we can put them back in line with the rest of the zombies. But that's just my opinion.

Drug is something that society marks as dangerous. Not all "dangerous" substances are marked as drug. What about alcohol and cigarettes? Are they more dangerous than so called illegal drugs, marijuana for example? I don't think so.
