"Art" sells for $120,000 and it promptly eaten.

This story isn't dumb in the sense that it is bad reporting (which is what I normally focus on) this is dumb because I can't believe that something like this actually happens.

There are a lot of dumb people in the world, and we notice them a great deal. However, despite this I still feel that maybe 85% of the global population are decent and reasonably intelligent (at least in maybe just a specific field.)

Then something like this comes along and it just strikes me to the core, wondering what the hell is wrong with people.

There it is folks, and I promise you I am not making this up. That is a piece of "art" that sold for $120,000 in a gallery exhibition in Miami. Called "Comedian" and made by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan, it is exactly what it looks like: A banana duct taped to a wall.

A French collector bought this piece and it makes me a teensy bit upset that someone would spend that sort of money on what is essentially garbage when so much good could have been done in the world such as maybe buying $120,000 worth of food for people who are starving to death every day.

In a twist of fate, a NYC artist David Datuna went down to the show after the sale, ate it. When asked why he did it, he simply said he "was hungry." I don't know if this was him suggesting that actual artists struggle to be able to afford food, but I think that would be a far more powerful message. However, i suspect he was simply trying to get in the news.

I don't know how angry they can really be with David, since the banana was going to rot in a couple of days anyway. Of all the people involved in this fiasco, I think that David is probably the least dumb.
