The clickbait headlines in news aggregates are incredibly deceptive and dumb

in news •  28 days ago

In order to keep myself misinformed from all sides I subscribe to news aggregates from the left and right and both of them seem to have a similar strategy when they are designing their headlines that lead to another article. Almost all of the time these headlines are intentionally misleading and I can only presume that this is because they are hoping that their viewers will be low-attention span readers and will take the headline at face value.

I will focus on the conservative ones because they are the ones I look at the most often.

A Top Democrat Senator you say? He skipped the DNC? Why would someone do something like that and is there something newsworthy here? Well as it turns out it is probably better for the Dems that this particular "top Senator" didn't turn up.

hmmmmm... i wonder why that is?

I nearly spit out my coffee when the page loaded and there was John Fetterman staring right back at me. The hoodie-donning Senator who struggles with the words is a "top Democrat?" Since when? The last I checked almost everyone was distancing themselves from him because he routinely says something nonsensical and let's be honest, he is in office because the GOP thought it would be a good idea to run a TV personality opposite him in the Penn election.

Since this is Conservative Brief that made the article, I was certain there was going to be some gaslighting in the article and I was not let down. Although John has said nothing of the sort, the writers attempted to elude that he was not attending out of protest because he disagrees with Harris' views on the Israel/Palestine conflict, which in theory he does, but he at no point in time stated that this was the reason why he wasn't going. They bury it inside the repetitive text of the article but the real reason is that he wanted to spend time with his kids. I do not like this man and feel that he is a true example about how we will elect just about anyone that has whatever letter next to their name, but if I were a politician, I can't think of anything I would rather not do than attend a multi-day party that is nothing more than grandstanding and one absolutely massive echo-chamber.

Onto another one and this sort of wording is just so amazingly common that it doesn't really even catch my attention anymore.

Something of this sort appears almost daily. It is always very vaguely worded but the end result of the title is the same: "Kamala is done!" "Campaign is in shambles" "the end is nigh" or something along those lines. The liberal news aggregates do exactly the same thing in reverse. However, if you happen to be someone that actually wants to know what happened that "could end her campaign" and you actually read the article, you find out that it is once again a "nothing-burger" and is ALWAYS an op-ed piece that includes the words of a single person.

If you have a little bit of a brain there is just one word in the title at the actual article that lets you know you don't need to read any further. That word is "former" meaning that the person that CB got this quote from no longer has this job. This happens all the time when MSM gets their hands on a disgruntled ex-employee and they use them as if they were some sort of higher source of information but in the end what they almost always are is some sort of political activist that is attempting to curry favor with whoever the current person or persons are that are running for important position, such as, the Presidency. Also, these people tend to be in the process of doing a book tour but I am sure that is a coincidence.

The person in this situation is Brandon Judd and if that name doesn't mean anything to you then you can get in line because nobody else has ever heard of this guy anyway. He went on Fox News to simply reiterate the same things we have already heard over and over again: Harris didn't do a good job controlling the border policies. Ok, that is something that I think most people can agree on but don't you ever get tired of hearing the same thing stated over and over again? I think only people with severe party affiliation sickness would attempt to argue that Harris did a "good job" of controlling the border and this is why Harris tends to shy away from even talking about it.

Last one for the day but just as misleading

Humiliated you say? Well what on earth could it possibly be? Did the audience start changing MAGA or something like that? Nope, instead Kamala was lambasted by conservative news outlets for laughing / cackling a lot while on stage. I do not like the woman, but I am very aware that this is just part of her personality. This is not news and she was not humiliated on stage, she was made fun of by people of the opposite party... these are not the same thing.

I think if you are not reading the news right now you are doing yourself a great service. I constantly look at what all sides have to say not to learn anything, but to see how much the media is willing to distract and lie to the public in an effort to sway public opinion and well, I think unless you are truly brainwashed, you are already very aware of this. I think everyone already knows that there are very few undecided voters remaining at this point so the only thing they might be trying to encourage right now is to ..... you know? I can't even finish that sentence. All news coverage of what is going on in the USA Presidential election right now, both Conservative and Liberal, is
