Game of Thrones' The Mountain Beat a World Record... by Basically Lifting a Mountain

in news •  7 years ago

The Mountain may be an undead freak in Game of Thrones, but Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson probably feels like king of the world right now. This past weekend, he beat the deadlifting world record by lifting 1,041 pounds. For his next trick he will be bench pressing a dragon.... but seriously he beat the old record by 10lbs and he made it look easy.

The most impressive part about him doing this with ease is that the last record holder, Mikhail Shivlyakov, bled profusely from his nose during the lift. Check the video out here:

Björnsson has been planning this victory for a while, telling Men's Health last month of his plans to beat the old record at the 2018 Arnold Strongman Competition. Though he may not have lifted as much as the weight of one of Dany's dragons from season seven, I believe he would put up a good fight with one of them if they didn't scorch him to death first. Without further adue he's the footage of the lift.
