Jakarta, CNN Indonesia - One day in the summer of 1945, Branch Rickey's expression darkened during a dialogue with Jackie Robinson. Rickey, who was then the Executive Director of the baseball club the United States (US) Brooklyn Dodgers, was angry with the man he was talking to.
Rickey is looking for a new player and he will sign the black Robinson as part of his team. Rickey is well aware that his decision to recruit Robinson will change the history of sports in Uncle Sam's country.
So far, black Americans are prohibited from appearing with whites. All black baseball players at that time only played in a league called the Negro Leagues. There are no written regulations, only racial issues are the cause.
In this 3-hour conversation, Rickey loudly asked the 26 year old young man in front of him about the racist confrontation they would face after the Dodgers decided to sign Robinson.
