Alinsky: “Life is Full of Contradictions” Obama Center v. Woodlawn Neighborhood?

in news •  7 years ago  (edited)

How interesting the first community organizer president, from Chicago is finding trouble with local community organizers willing to give him bad press. Perhaps his influence is waning, or what? There do not appear to be sufficient publicly available information of the Chicago Power dynamics, at least since, major journalers like Saul Alinsky left us.

A dozen community organizers including Jeanette Taylor camped, the education director of the Kenwood Oakland Community Organization, camped out overnight—like it was a Chik Fil A or something where you get 52 free combos if your one of the first 100 in—but this was just so she could talk at the Obama Foundation event which plans to gentrify the area.

Obama videoconferenced into the event. Taylor asked the former head of the Merican global hegemonic coercive apparatus about why they refused to sign a Community Benefits Agreement. Obama is reported to have ignored the organization and specifically did not have his agents/whoever is paying for the center do so to inhibit collective bargaining with community organizations.

Taylor was displeased with the responses and fears her family may be forced to move due to Obama’s brand joining the neighborhood. Over 100 faculty from University of Chicagor and dozens of local groups have requested Obama negotiate with the group but to no avail. Obama’s chides against private property clearly were just to activate a political base since it sounds like he takes a libertarian approach that whoever owns land should do whatever they want with it.

Wow..i like this politics history..i appreciate this news....

what did you like about it?

HA! What a coward he video phoned in... Because he knew he would hear a ton of backlash.

"Merican global hegemonic coercive apparatus"

Hahah yes you mean that shitty government!

yep, thats another way to phrase it, yea it is funny he phoned it in, wasn't human enough to face the irony in person, but i imagine if he did, then someone might live stream him being called out then, theyd have a to pay a few extra coin to keep the community organizers at bay.

Never understood politics and this is one of them. But my heart goes out to the good citizens and their families whom are affected.

yea, its just the natural thing of people trying to minimize the cost of doing something within that urban area, just ironic, cause obama supposedly used to try to help people protesting like those protesting his center

the world sure works in funny ways

it can be
