Gladius Development Update #7 (03/29)

in news •  7 years ago

Good afternoon! Welcome to our seventh bi-weekly development update! Every other Thursday at 4PM EST we will be posting an overview of the progress we’ve made over the last two weeks.

During the last sprint we focused on:

Gladius Beta Program Launch
Gladius Attending NACD Global Cyber Forum

Gladius Beta Program Launch

Today we are very pleased to announce the launch of our Beta program! Over the past couple of months we’ve been working very hard to provide our biggest supporters with the opportunity to test, contribute, and critique our latest software. The Gladius Network is a community project to make a decentralized CDN and DDoS mitigation system using the Ethereum blockchain. Today is a step forward for our technology and our community. We are also excited to announce that the first 240 beta participants have been chosen! If you applied please check your email!

Selection Process

For the initial launch we wanted to have testers with a little more technical experience to test our software rigorously and find and report bugs/errors/crashes quickly and precisely. In addition, we also wanted users a variety of operating systems, hardware, bandwidth, etc… in order to test our software in a variety of environments.

Here are some stats on the selected beta testers:

Total users: 240

Positions:
195 Node Prospects
29 Pool Manager Prospects
16 Customer Prospects

Operating Systems:
119 Windows
80 Linux
28 Mac OS
13 Other/Multiple

Bandwidth:
163 Users : 50+ Mbps
24 Users : 30–40 Mbps
13 Users : 20–30 Mbps
25 Users : 10–20 Mbps
15 Users : 0–10 Mbps

Countries: 48

If you didn’t get selected for the first round of beta testers don’t worry! The beta will run up until the official launch so there is still plenty of time to participate. In the future we will let in more testers and eventually open it to the public!
Structure of Beta Software

The Beta software has 3 components. The first is the Gladius Edge Daemon. This module allows a machine to become an edge node and serve web content. The second component is the Gladius Control Daemon. This module allows users to interact with the blockchain and our smart contracts through a custom API. The last component is the Gladius CLI. This module acts as the interface between the user and the other components. This makes it even easier for contributers to create tools and even entire interfaces on top of our API. Here is a link to the Gladius Wiki which has all of the information needed to install and setup the beta software.
Outside Contribution

We know not everyone who applied to join the beta was able to be selected. Keep in mind that the Gladius Beta Program will be growing and adding more and more users. In the meantime, we still value our awesome community and want to hear your thoughts. Below are some things that you can still contribute to:

Our software is open source, anyone is free to clone, build, and test our code. We would love to receive Pull Requests for bug fixes, more features, and documentation updates.
Feature requests! Please voice your opinions in our GitHub under the relevant project. We want to make this a community focused service, so add requests.
Help out fellow users in the Telegram group. People have been doing an awesome job providing help to new users for the airdrop, joining the beta program, and redeeming bonus tokens.

The Next Two Weeks

Over the last few months we have been super busy coding and getting the beta program ready. We’re going to take the next two weeks to:

Review the beta launch and address things we could have done better
Update our roadmap to reflect our goals (Don’t worry the timeline to launch is not changing)
Set up a proper sprint schedule

Beta Program Payout

As we stated in our previous Dev Update, we will still reward Beta Program Participants with some GLA (1–10) at the conclusion of the program. At this moment, no GLA will be required to stake because the first launch will be on the Ropsten Test Network. We will be keeping track of who joined and will add those addresses to a list for payouts later.
What’s Next

Even though the Beta Program has launched, there are many features and usability difficulties that we will be addressing soon. We want to integrate some front end components; simplify the installation process; and clean and optimize our codebase.
Airdrop Next Steps

March was a wild month for us thanks to the airdrop! Since that is now winding down we’re excited to announce the official figures for earning amounts for each level.

Individual Amounts in USD
Lvl 1 $3
Lvl 2 $6
Lvl 3 $40
Lvl 4 $100
Lvl 5 $300

Of course these amounts will correlate to their GLA equivalent.

Additionally we will soon be releasing the KYC process to the Airdrop Portal. Once you are verified and confirmed you will be eligible to receive your GLA! Stay tuned for the launch announcement in the next couple of days.
Gladius Attending NACD Global Cyber Forum

Gladius will be in Geneva, Switzerland for the National association of Corporate Directors Global Cyber Forum . The NACD is convening an elite group of multinational corporate directors, C-suite executives, cyber experts, global law enforcement officials, and other thought leaders from around the world to arm corporate board members with the tools they need to oversee cyber-risk at the very highest level.

We’ll be at the conference from Monday, April 17th through Tuesday, April 18th. We will also set aside Wednesday, April 19th to meet with community members and beta testers in the area! Location for the meet up is still TBD. Reach out to us if you’re interested in say hi to the team!
