  • Police continue to investigate a vehicle ramming incident that occurred in the general area of Chambers St and West St in Lower Manhattan, New York City.
  • At least eight people have died, and as many as 11 people were injured in the incident.
  • Updated media reports indicate that the incident is being investigated by the FBI as a possible terror attack; however, there are no reported links to potential terror organizations at this time. Sources do indicate that the incident was a deliberate act.
  • Schools in the Lower Manhattan area were placed on a precautionary lockdown, and area roads been closed while the investigation continues. Road closures include: W 14th St and W 23rd St (from East River to Hudson River), southbound and northbound FDR Dr (at 34th St), and West St (from 34th St to Chambers St).
  • Sources reported that a vehicle initially ran over multiple people in a bike lane along West St. The vehicle then crashed into a school bus in the area, at which point the driver emerged from the vehicle with imitation firearms.
  • The suspect was later shot at the scene by police and was taken into custody. Police now state that there is no active threat to the area, and there are no outstanding suspects at this time. Use caution in the area and expect heavy police activity.
