Federal Reserve Bank And MIT To Work On Cryptocurrency
According to a recent report published by Boston Herald, the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston has joined forces with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to explore the possibility of issuing its own cryptocurrency. One of the first steps will be developing the software that would be capable of addressing the needs of America’s 328.2 mln population. Standard Chartered Carries Out First Blockchain Trade
Standard Chartered PLC, a British multinational banking and financial services company headquartered in London, England, has successfully leveraged R3’s Corda blockchain technology to conduct Bangladesh’s first blockchain trade transaction. The Standard Chartered bank issued a Letter of Credit (LC) for the trade between garment exporter Viyellatex Ltd and Viyellatex Spinning on the Contour blockchain network. Bitcoin's Hashrate Hits Another All-Time High
Bitcoin’s hashrate, the total amount of computational power deployed on the network, has quietly climbed to a new all-time high of 127.289 EH/s. The previous high (126.91 EH/s) was set on July 30, which was preceded by Bitcoin rallying more than 15 percent in just one week. Overall, the processing power of Bitcoin has grown by more than 76.4 percent on the year-over-year basis. Akon: Akoin Cryptocurrency Will Empower Africans
The construction of Akon City, the $6 billion futuristic city that will function solely on the akoin cryptocurrency, is underway. Akon says cryptocurrency will empower Africans to overcome hurdles, such as high inflation and government corruption. Akon says his city will resemble Wakanda from the Marvel hit movie Black Panther. According to Akon the first phase of construction includes homes, hotels, schools, police and fire stations, an airstrip, a mall, a waste facility and a solar power plant is expected to be completed by 2023. WBTC Surpassed The Amount Of Bitcoin Mined
The number of Wrapped Bitcoin on Ethereum, also known as WBTC, is surging. Citing data from Dune Analytics and CoinMetrics, cryptocurrency analyst Zack Voell reported that the issuance of WBTC (6,785) surpassed the amount of Bitcoin mined (5,738) since August 9. The demand for WBTC has increased in recent weeks as the user activity in the DeFi space significantly increased. BitPay Collaborate With Coinbase to Launch A Zero Fee Service for Crypto
The largest provider of Bitcoin and crypto payments, BitPay, has just modified its services to allow users to spend crypto straight from a Coinbase account to BitPay-enabled merchants for zero fees. The new enhancement, which also eliminates the need for peer-to-peer transfers, gives users the ability to spend Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), XRP, Bitcoin Cash (BCH), USD Coin (USDC), and other cryptocurrencies from their Bitpay Wallet apps. Litecoin Surpassed Bitcoin SV And Ranked 7th Place In Crypto Market
Litecoin (LTC) is now catching up with the broader crypto market rally. LTC is up 4.75% over the last 24 hours, at the time of writing. LTC has now surpassed Bitcoin SV (BSV) on CoinMarketCap and also LTC position in market cap is now 7th place. Creator of LTC, Charlie Lee recently tweet that the percentage of transactions that use Segregated Witness (SegWit), the protocol upgrade that speeds up transactions by increasing block capacity, has hit 80% on the Litecoin blockchain.
