US Banks Can Now Offer Crypto Custody Services
The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) is letting all nationally chartered banks provide custody services for cryptocurrencies. Senior Deputy Comptroller and Senior Counsel Jonathan Gould wrote that any national bank can hold onto the unique cryptographic keys for a cryptocurrency, clearing the way for national banks to hold digital assets for their clients. Deutsche Telekom's Subsidiary Will Operate Chainlink Node
A subsidiary of $80 billion German behemoth, Deutsche Telekom called T-Systems has become a Chainlink node operator and will engage in "generalized mining". By providing real-world data to the Chainlink network, T-Systems MMS engages in a so-called ‘generalized mining’, where it provides an IT service to a blockchain network while getting paid in digital assets for reliably doing so. Indian Prime Minister Endorses Blockchain
Indian Prime Minister throws support behind blockchain in spite of India’s animosity towards cryptocurrencies. During the India Ideas Summit organized by US-India Business Council (USIBC), Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioned blockchain alongside other “frontier technology” such as big data, 5G & Internet of things. By focusing on bleeding-edge tech, Modi wants to attract more foreign capital. South Korea Will Feature Crypto Themed TV Series
A K-drama series titled “Romantic Hacker” is set to air online in October across South Korea. It focuses on crypto and blockchain-related topics. The show is slated to film in August. K-pop star Kwon Hyun-bin will be featured in the series as the male lead, “Jaemin.” The talent agency in charge of hiring actors and actresses for the series stated that it will be “an action-comedy” story based on cryptocurrency. Visa to Redouble Its Efforts To Support Cryptocurrency
Hailing digital currency’s potential to democratize electronic payments, financial services giant Visa appeared on Wednesday to redouble its efforts to “shape and support” cryptocurrency’s place in the “future of money”. Three "key values" will now run Visa's digital currency playbook: maintaining strong data protection standards; remaining network and currency agnostic; and partnering with projects aligned with the payment firm's existing expertise, it wrote in a blog post titled "Advancing Our Approach to the Digital Currency". Big Pump In The Price Of Bitcoin And Ethereum
The pump—so far without much of a dump—started at around 11 pm UK time. In under an hour, late on Wednesday night, Bitcoin, which followed the same upward trajectory, rose from $9,377 to $9,516, an increase of 1.48%. The price of Ethereum rose from $245 to $269, an increase of 9.7%. This is Ethereum’s highest price since February. As well as Bitcoin Cash, TRON, and XRP, followed, although their 24 hour increases. Crypto Exchange Shapeshift Launches Self-Custody Trading App
Switzerland-based crypto exchange firm ShapeShift has launched Self-custody, a mobile trading app in over 120 countries for iOS and android users to buy and sell digital assets without trusting their private keys to a 3rd party. The app which only requires users to use an email address and password to sign in with currently supports Bitcoin(BTC), Ethereum(ETH), Litecoin (LTC), DigiByte (DGB), TrueUSD TUSD and ERC-20 tokens.
