The 2016 election sparked American skepticism in opinion polls following Donald Trump's surprise victory over Hillary Clinton.
Many believe this was due to a lack of polls in certain states like Michigan. This year's polls show a difference between Trump and Democratic candidate Joe Biden despite a very turbulent year.
With more than 66 million Americans voting so far, the polls do not seem to make a difference. However in some states the battle is still open including Pennsylvania, where the focus of the campaign of both camps is focused.
Here is a summary of polls in some countries a week before the election.
Biden has a 9-point national lead. In Pennsylvania
- The state that offers 20 electoral votes leads Biden with about 5 percentage points ahead of Trump. Biden does not necessarily need a victory in Pennsylvania, but it remains one of the most important states for his campaign compared to the 2016 election.
In Michigan and Wisconsin Biden has an even better lead. He is 7 points ahead in Wisconsin and 8 points ahead of Michigan. Biden has weak support in Florida where the percentage goes to 2.4 points. North Carolina also presents close competition, as Biden has just a 2.4-point lead in a state that Trump needs to win on the road to 270 electoral votes.
