This morning I woke to this story, 'Banksy auction prank leaves art world in shreds' all while drinking my coffee and eating eggs & chorizo.
I smiled as I read the article. The piece of art "Banksy’s Girl with Balloon" was sold at Sotheby's auction and then shredded!

I see this as some kind of statement from Banksy. So here are few things to ponder:
- It’s like he's saying that if they can pay a million for it why can’t they change society with those funds?!
- Will the painting increase in value now that it is shredded up?
- When did "ownership" for the painting take place?
- How was the shredding initiated?
- Was the frame ever inspected?
- What was its power source?
What transpired at the auction was hilarious yet very strange. What do you make of it?

I think the shredding of the painting was to recreate in an aristocrat the feeling of that first balloon that drifted away when you were a kid.
I also think its a "Are you really spending money on this?!"

Now onto conspiracies, this guy shows that the shreded image and the original image don't line up. So I measured myself since I was bringing it into gif format anyway, it seems to be offset by 20 pixels

The painting would have to align exactly where it was in the frame for that to line up, no?! Considering the massive crease at the bottom, the exit hole must have been offset (towards the wall) away from where it originally sat. Idk 😐

I either need the contraption or to get a lot better at math. But I took some more measurements anyway. The is frame hiding 8-9 pixels of paper under the bevel total. Appears to shift 6 pixels on the left edge towards the right. The right edge appears to grow 14 pixels. Now I am lost on where to go to really prove anything but 14+6=20 pixels which is the offset I measured and seems to support the idea that the shredder was angled. Why do I click on conspiracy theories?! I need to go do something productive now XD
