"There was a huge explosion and the house shook violently" - Tony Bateman
On the night of November 16, the Northern Lights tourist guide, Tony Bateman, was indoors in northern Finland in Lapland, warming up between one spectacle and another, when all of a sudden everything started to vibrate after a loud crash. "There was a huge explosion and the house shook violently," Tony said. "At first I thought it was an earthquake, or maybe a tree that had fallen on the roof of the hut!" I went outside and looked at the trees.
"Seeing the night sky turn blue, and the meteor blast gave me shivers," Tony said. "Auroras and a ball of fire - what a night!"
In addition to the super bright meteor, it is likely that the space fragment has resisted entry into the Earth's atmosphere. Even if it has exploded in the air, its fragments are probably scattered throughout the region - great news for meteorite hunters.
Wow to see this during the clear day !! Must have been amazing spectacle
