French President Emmanuel Macron’s statement yesterday changes the game in Syria.
Until yesterday France had been the most vocal supporter of U.S. regime change policy in Syria. Now it is its most pragmatic critic.
This signifies a multitude of changes geopolitically.
First, it dovetails with German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s statement that the EU should no longer consider the U.S. a reliable partner in foreign affairs. The EU will, indeed, pursue a more independent foreign policy.

For Steemians Only
This is my first article in my new deal writing for RI, and I'm really excited to do so. When I repost my other paid work, I will add some additional commentary for Steemians who support it. Thanks for reading.
Note also that the oligarchs behind the EU and US/UK policy are hedging their bets now in case they lose the war with Donald Trump. There are signs that Trump is going to successfully weather this stupid Russia Hacked muh Election nonsense and if he's able to not swing from the noose the Robert Mueller is preparing for him, then prominent members of the U.S. Deep State will wind up in jail.
Most notably, I think, John McCain. And that would force a change in EU policy towards Russia as the main thrust of support for Ukraine's neo-nazi regime would crumble. Also, looking ahead Donetsk and Lugansk are going to hold referendums like Crimea did. And they'll do that once the fighting dies down in the late fall, as the weather turns bad.
At that point Russia will accept them formally into the Russian Federation, as opposed to now, where it is only unofficially, and all this stupid Minsk II agreement talk can finally end. Putin, I'm sure, is telling the LPR/DPR that the time isn't quite right. But, the longer this stasis holds, the more likely Poroshenko gets ousted from office, Right Sector takes over and things in Kiev become truly toxic.
Really good article for RI. Could Merkels upcoming election and Macron's (diminishing)popularity have anything do with his being more outspoken on the subject ? Interesting observation on Ukraine.
All up very enlightening.
