BSTI's office will be in every district

Industries Secretary Mohammad Abdullah has instructed to take initiative to start the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) office in every district to ensure quality products and services. He said that the BSTI office should be kept at all district and regional levels of the country without expanding the offices in only a few identified districts. To this end, in February, he directed the proposal of sending an ideal manpower structure to the ministry.

In the fiscal year 2017-18, the Industries Secretary gave this direction during the review meeting of the implementation of the projects in the Annual Development Program (ADP) of the Ministry of Finance. The meeting was held in the conference room of the Industries Ministry on Tuesday. The meeting was attended by senior officials of the Ministry of Industry, Heads of different organizations and corporations under the ministry and concerned project directors were present.

It was informed in the meeting that there are 43 development projects in the Ministry of Industries's annual development program. Out of this, 39 projects, 3 tech and 1 self-financed projects are implemented. In all, the allocation for these projects is Tk 1,376 crore and 78 lakhs. Of this, Tk 1,420 million in government sector, Tk 6 crore 40 lakh in project assistance and Tk 50 crore for the organization's own financing sector.

In the meeting, the industrial secretary said that the project managers need to be more active in implementing the project within the prescribed time. To solve any problems arising during the implementation of the project, the meeting of the steering committee will be organized frequently. He has directed the Ministry of Planning and the concerned office-bearers to keep intensive supervision for formulating new projects and implementing it properly. He warned that disciplinary action would be taken against him if delay in implementation of the project due to negligence in his responsibilities.

Industry Secretary said, the initiative to diversify the products in sugar mills will be implemented quickly to make the sugar industry profitable. To this end, he advised to conclude the pre-survey activities of the new projects in a timely manner with due diligence.
