The endangered white-winged duck which only had a world population of 800 in 2001 were found inside a tree hollow in Preah Vihear’s Kulen Promtep Wildlife Sanctuary in Cambodia.

It was the first time in 7 years that the eggs of this engendered duck have been discovered in the sanctuary, the eggs were within a hollow tree 12 metres above ground.

In this area and others, villagers are rewarded to locate, protect and monitor nests. Between 2001-2016 this reward scheme has led to the protection of 3,813 nests and 6,806 fledglings over an area of more than 4,000 square kilometres we presume of various species of birds other than the white-winged duck.
