In December 1963, Sinatra's son was kidnapped and released a few days later against ransom. The experience was traumatic for Frank Sinatra: the kidnappers insisted he would contact them through a payphone and he was afraid he would run out of coins during their negotiations, so much so that he spent the rest of his lives with 10 dimes in his pocket at all times after that, and even got buried with 10 coins at his death.

If I remember well, Inonu has his tomb in the same mausoleum as Ataturk in Ankara. I don't know what he did to be the target of an assassination attempt, but as a politician, you have to deal with real sick minds sometimes.

To be fair, I had never heard of Valery Tarsis before that article, and, considering the tyranny of Moscow, it's pretty remarkable he managed to get out of the Soviet Union in such a manner. Makes me think he was not such a great writer after all, considering how Boris Pasternak never made it out.
