Let’s talk Pokémon Go for a sec...
Because it has straight up taken over. And here’s your proof:
- Two days after it was released in the US, it was installed on more than 5% of all Android devices in the country (that's more than Tinder).
- It has nearly as many daily active users as Twitter.
- The app’s average usage time is 43 minutes, higher than Instagram and Snapchat.
And if you haven’t seen the internet in the past few days, Pokémon Go is a new augmented reality game that has players interact with the real world. Want to catch a new Pokémon? It’s probably at your local post office.
But this is why we can’t have nice things…
According to the O’Fallon, Missouri Police Department, armed robbers are using the app to target victims.Apparently, the robbers set up a beacon at a Pokéstop to lure players and robbed 11 of them (all between the ages of 16 and 18) at gunpoint. Fortunately, four suspects have been apprehended. Unfortunately, this is why the world is a real bummer sometimes.
Some other not so good stuff…
Across the country, people are venturing out into the world to find Pikachu. Some though are finding, well, other things.Like a Wyoming teen who discovered a dead body floating in a river. Or players who discovered that your body gets sore when you go outside and perform an actual physical activity for once.
