    Well, sand mining is already disappearing swathes of island nations, as well as Florida beaches.

    Also, since global warming would open up vast territory to human occupation, making subarctic regions more temperate, only political will might make it harmful.

    Thankfully, sea ice is increasing, and sea temperature decreasing of late, so allowing politics to savage the poor for this particular excuse may well be staved off for a bit.
