It is believed that John Montagu, the fourth Earl of the sandwich, in the 18th century was the creator of the "sandwich." He would a little beef served with his slices, while playing cards with his friend. He would call this the sandwich.
November 3 is the Earl's birthday, This is why we celebrate National Sandwich Day.
