I Need To Know What I'm Eating

DARK Act

Back in 2016, the US Congress passed the DARK Act - Deny American the Right to Know. Which banned the states to require mandatory labeling of GMO or genetically engineered food. Well, to be politically correct, the government calls it bioengineered food.

Two states had already passed GMO labeling laws and many corporations had already begun the process of labeling all their products properly. Then this monster comes along from our national government. Yes, they have our best interest in mind.

I called both of my state's national senators and all I got was their aides trying to tell me how I was wrong. Talk about not listening to your constituents.

Both senators voted for the DARK Act. How many people do you think called them and said

Please don't let me know if my food is altered genetically.

July 3 Deadline

Tell USDA To Clearly Label GMOs on All Food Packaging

Now that the DARK Act passed, USDA was required to execute a federal GMO labeling program. The proposal is on the Federal eRulemaking portal website and is open for comments through July 3 - Tuesday.

This proposal has been there since May 4, 2018. And I only got to see this from Cornucopia's newsletter I subscribed to. This doesn't even give me but 3 days to read through the proposal and construct a thoughtful comment.

I just want to say - LABEL THE FREAKINSTEIN FOOD! If it's GMO then say GMO if not, then fine!

But it doesn't work well with these government officials. Diplomacy diplomacy they say.

Back to the proposal

  1. Digital disclosure - that means you have to bring your phone with you while shopping and scan a QR code. Which leads to the product's website for more details. Ain't going to happen. I don't bring my phone with me everywhere. Their digital disclosure study also reveals, shoppers (85%) experienced technical challenges just using mobile app to scan digital links. Think about the elderly shoppers burdened to do this Or the handicapped shoppers. Heck or the parents shopping with their children! Just put the ingredients on the label and mark the ones that are GMO.

This also means the stores - big or small will have to provide wifi connection or an in-store scanner. Another option is for the shoppers to have data for internet connection.

Smiley BE logo which refers to BioEngineered. Pretty slick marketing. Most people have heard GMO or genetically engineered. Changing them to bio-engineered is going to throw off most of these shoppers and seeing the smiley is like programming the masses to associate GMO food with "It's OK I'm your friend smiley"

Respond

They are asking us to respond to this but in my experience, it matters not what we want. It only matters what the big corporations and their government cronies want. Until we do away with them, we have no voice.

But if you still want to chime in and give your comments. Here's the link
