Even in the Midst of Controversy, Latest Polls Find Half of Voters Still Approve of Trump

President Trump started off an early day Tuesday morning taking to Twitter to brag on his latest approval poll by conservative-leaning Rasmussen. “Thank you to Rasmussen for the honest polling. Just hit 50%, which is higher than Cheatin’ Obama at the same time in his Administration,” Trump tweeted.

According to their latest poll, Trump is now sitting at a 50% approval rating, which is 4 points higher than former president Obama scored on April 2, 2010. Rasmussen daily tracking polls are based on a three-day rolling average with a 2.5 point margin of error. On Monday half of the voters polled had given their approval of Trump’s job so far in office.

However, Trump and the Republican party still face obstacles heading into the midterm election season with still half the country disapproving of his perform thus far.

What is surprising is the rating came a week after CNN announced the President had peaked with a 42% approval rating. Apparently, recent developments that have occurred leading up to the poll, have had little negative impact. The president has had numerous cabinet change outs, such as Secretary of State Tillerson leaving and NSA advisor McMaster. Also several staffers, including Hope Hicks, have also left the White House. The president is also still dealing with allegations by Stormy Daniels of their alleged 2006 affair, shortly after he first married current First Lady Melania Trump

Time will tell how the President’s rating will go, with several key issues coming up such as DACA reform, yet to be kept campaign promises, such as the border wall, and continuing developments in legal matters with him.

The next few months will surely prove to be interesting as we continue to dredge on into the midterm election season. At this point, it seems to be a contest of who can make the biggest full of themselves first, which current events and constant unrest and low approval polls by the voters, may bold well for libertarian candidates who are running in the midterms.
