Police have recovered the charred body of a teenage boy in Thakurgaon.

The body was found in a toilet in the Darul Ulum Foyez Um Qawmi Madrasa in Nichitpur area on Saturday, said Sadar Police Station OC Abdul Latif Miah.

The student was identified as 16-year-old Abu Bakar, a resident of Bahadurpur, and a student of the Hifz department at the Qawmi madrasa.

The madrasa administration has said it was a case of suicide.

But local police have detained 10 people, including the madrasa superintendent for interrogation.

Madrasa Superintendent Yasin Ali told bdnews24.com that a fire was seen in the bathroom early that morning. “We found the bathroom door locked from inside.”

But OC Latif said the bathroom door was found open when the police arrived on the scene around 9am. The body has taken to Thakurgaon Modern Sadar Hospital for autopsy.

“Abu Bakar came to the madrasa at noon. He seemed happy. We went to sleep for the night after dinner. But in the morning we saw that he was missing from his bed,” said Monirul Islam, one of the victim’s classmates.

Bakar’s death was a pre-planned murder, said his father, adding that the boy had left home with Tk 200 Friday afternoon.

The police initially suspect a murder, said Thakurgaon Police Super Farhat Ahmed. Though the body was found in the bathroom, the killing may have occurred at another place, he said. The investigation is ongoing.
