1981 Book Was About A Pathogen That Escaped From A Biolab In Wuhan

Fans of the best-selling author Dean Koontz have been pointing to similarities between his 1981 book “The Eyes of Darkness,” and the situation that has been unfolding in China in recent weeks. While there is no clear origin for the COVID-19 coronavirus that has swept across China, there have been numerous conspiracy theories about the possibility that the illness was some type of man-made biological agent that escaped from a lab, and this is exactly the plot of the 1981 thriller “The Eyes of Darkness.”

In the book, a virus called Wuhan-400 is developed in a Chinese military lab in the city of Wuhan, which is coincidentally the epicenter of the most recent outbreak. Another strange coincidence that has fans scratching their heads is the fact that there actually is a top-secret biological research facility located in the city of Wuhan. However, Wuhan has always been a research and technological center for China since at least as far back as world war 2, so any author to do their research on the area would have learned this fact.

The book is about a grieving mother named Christina Evans who is on a quest to find her lost son, who she was told was killed on a camping trip. She decided to look for him after getting a mysterious message saying that he was still alive. She is eventually led to a military facility where her son was being held because he was accidentally contaminated with a biological agent created at the research center in Wuhan.
