Every few years, for the past 15 or so years, since I was in high school, I have gotten in a bunch of people's faces about how the whole political system is a scam and people shouldn't participate in it. Of course, I do this during election season while people are really enthusiastic about it.
I tell them about how their time campaigning could be better spent on addressing the specific issues we are concerned about through direct action, and so on, while I waste an equal amount of time with the "anti-campaign," which seems more and more pointless every time I do it.
Sitting on the sidelines with a life-threatening illness for one of the most intense elections I have ever seen really put a lot of this into perspective, and you have probably noticed I have taken a vastly different approach since I have been back.
This year, there will be no "anti-campaigning" from me. Everyone knows where I stand by now, there is really no point in continuing to bash people over the head with it. If people really wanna know how I feel about elections, I have published plenty on that.
This year I am going to take the advice I have been giving to people for 15 years, and invest that time contributing to solutions for the specific issues I care about, and working on new projects that advocate for the kind of world I want to live in.
I reckon that's what to do. You aren't responsible for what other people think or do, and you rightly don't have authority over them. Getting all worked up unless there's an imminent threat to life and limb isn't recommended.
Last month I had a heart attack, and my priorities vastly redirected, much as yours seem to have. I consider that a good thing for me, and see you find it an improvement for you as well.
Thanks!

well i would imagine most of the people I know will limit their campaigning to annoying their friends and family on social media.
I do agree with what you say about the value of addressing a single issue rather than trying to take on the whole world, though. Wouldn't it be nice if everyone did that?

That is the other part of it too. I feel like around these election seasons, I just piss off EVERYONE, on both sides of the debate, and it makes my activism less effective once election season is over, because people who would have been receptive to my message are now salty because I trashed their favorite candidate online for a few months lol
