Dylann Roof, the man charged with killing nine members of a Charleston church in a racial driven massacre, was recently attacked by an inmate at The Charleston County Detention Center.
According to a police report, inmate Dwayne Stafford met Roof when he was leaving the shower and managed to get a few good hits in before the scuffle was split up by guards.
Roof's attorney told reporters that they will not be pressing charges against Stafford for the incident.
Charleston County Sheriff Al Cannon admitted that the guards may have been responsible to some extent because this occurred in a high security area where Roof should have been under watch every minute of every day.
However, he claimed that it was not intentional, and that the guards did not allow it to happen.
"It seems to me pretty obvious at this point that at the very least we have complacency. We do things day-in and day-out and they become routine," Cannon said.
People are now sending donations to Stafford.
