Mobile phones have a big positive role in the economic development of the remote areas of the country. In areas where people are still power-less, a household income is increasing by 7 to 10 percent due to the use of mobile phones. For the welfare of the mobile phone, poultry, fish farm, and those who work in the non-agricultural sectors of the remote areas are increasing their income.

A study by Bangladesh Development Research Institute (BIDS) BIDS researcher Monzur Hossain and World Bank's Hossain Samad did research on the changes in the family due to the use of mobile phones in marginal areas. The study was done on the survey of 3,540 households surveyed in remote areas like rivers, peas, sea and coastal areas of Bangladesh.

People of these areas are dependent on solar power. The districts included in the study are Sirajganj, Narayanganj, Jamalpur, Kushtia, Manikganj, Noakhali, Patuakhali and Faridpur.

Researchers say that if a cell phone in a remote area has a mobile phone, it can play a role in the market of commodity marketing, transportation costs and time. As a result, productivity and efficiency of a family increase. For example, due to the use of mobile phones, the income of fishermen or fish fishery increases by 7 to 10 percent. Because the fishermen get a detailed idea about the fish market, which helps them get better prices.

Research has also led to the increase in empowerment of women due to the use of mobile phones. It has been said that through the mobile phone, the new employment opportunities of women increased by 1 percentage point. Women are now using mobile phones in order to purchase essential commodities, family planning and children's education.

It has also been said in the study that removing natural disasters in remote areas can also reduce the amount of damage to mobile phone. The family in which there is no mobile phone, their consumption decreases by 8 percent. And those who have mobile phones, their consumption remains the same as before. After the disaster, the risk of falling prey to the families of the mobile phone users reduced by about 3 percent.

In the study, the number of mobile phone users in Bangladesh has been shown 12.8 million. According to the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) statistics, till September this year, the number of active mobile connections in the mobile phone has increased to 147 million. The mobile phone connection is shown as the number of mobile phone users in Bangladesh.

As global organization of mobile phone operators GSMA, 53 percent of the total population in Bangladesh or 85 million people mobile phone unit or unit user. Although a person has more than one SIM card, GSM takes into account a SIM card for single user to calculate. The number of single cell phone users is determined by calculating this method.
