Mercedes-Benz introduced a new electric van eVito with a power reserve of 150 km and promised to transfer all of its commercial models to electric traction

German automaker Mercedes-Benz continues to work on electrification of its commercial models, promising in the near
future to release electric versions of all its models of the Van family. The program will start with the medium-sized eVito, which is already available for pre-order at a price of 39,990 euros and will be delivered to the first customers in the second half of 2018. Starting in 2019, the electric versions of the popular Sprinter and Citan models will also enter the market, the automaker will invest about 150 million euros in this segment.

The new fully electric van Mercedes-Benz eVito will get the maximum speed of 120 km / h, which will provide an electric motor with a power of 84 kW and with a torque of 300 Nm. If desired, the driver will be able to set a limit of 80 km / h, which will not only fit into the speed limits of cities, but also help to use the battery charge with greater efficiency, increasing the power reserve.

The Mercedes-Benz eVito model will be able to transport goods weighing more than 1000 kg in a cargo cabin with a volume of 6.6 m3, with the maximum weight of the loaded van not exceeding 3200 kg. The battery capacity is 41.4 kWh, which will provide a range of 150 km in ideal conditions or about 100 km at full load and cold weather. A full charge of the batteries will take 6 hours.

The management of Mercedes-Benz Vans particularly noted that it is not just about transferring commercial models to electric motors. Next-generation models will also receive more advanced electronics that will help businesses use electric vehicles with greater efficiency, and drivers will work with greater comfort based on the specifics of the market for the delivery of commercial goods. In particular, the wireless connection to the company's services and charging infrastructure will allow the driver and the company in real time to assess the status of the charge, the available power reserve and the optimal route of travel, taking into account the fittest electric stations.

The company Mercedes-Benz also entered into an agreement with the logistics company Hermes, according to which it will supply about 1500 electric models of Vito and Sprinter by 2020. Pilot testing of electric vehicles in the delivery service will begin in 2018 in Stuttgart and Hamburg. Companies will also work together to create a delivery system concept that will include electric vehicles, charging infrastructure, freight traffic management services, and a fully automatic loading and unloading system.

Recall that recently Daimler Trucks introduced the concept of electric truck E-FUSO Vision One with a battery for 300 kWh and a power reserve of 350 km.
