Virgin Hyperloop One set a new speed record for the Hyperloop capsule in its DevLoop test center. During the third phase of the tests, a speed of 387 km / h was achieved. For comparison, the previous record speed set by the company was 310 km / h. Upon reaching such a result, an unnamed test capsule moved inside the vacuum cylinder with a pressure reduced to 0.0002 atmospheres. This pressure is equivalent to air pressure at an altitude of 61 km above sea level.

In addition, it is reported that the last December tests are noteworthy not only the achievement of a new speed record. They also included the inspection of a number of new systems and assemblies, including a new airlock, allowing the capsule to move between the vacuum pipe and the sections with normal pressure. Also, new control and power systems, an electric motor, a magnetic levitation system, a capsule suspension system were tested. The ultimate goal of the tests is to create a transport system capable of transporting passengers using a system of vacuum tunnels for long distances at high speed.

The company also confirmed the previously circulating rumors that Richard Branson was appointed non-executive chairman of Virgin Hyperloop One.
