Competition for YouTube – Facebook Watch offers both videos and series

Facebook introduced today a feature that could potentially kickstart a new era for this social platform as Facebook Watch will provide a new service where people can upload their videos.

The YouTuber alternative

It isn’t hard to understand why Facebook decided to venture into the video bussines. Youtube is essentially the only player on the market and while there are other options, they just don’t have the market share and thus the view numbers. But Facebook Watch could be a the first real competition for YouTube as Facebook has both the money, advertisers and most of all, the userbase.

For starters, some selected people in the USA will get access to this service but just withing a few weeks this circle of selected people should be growing more and more. Based of the functions that were shown so far, it is obvious that Facebook wants to become an alternative platform that challenges Youtube.

Facebook also already shown that is has some creators on their side. There are documents, reality shows but even short tv series that will be directly produced by Facebook.

A similar topic came up on another thread recently, and lbry.io came up there. I'm optimistic it gains traction and is eventually able to bring more freedom and less censorship in regards to sharing content on the internet.

Steem is already helping with that - it's great to see blockchain technologies finding use outside of just currency applications.

So Facebook already had Videos, which were uploaded to pages directly, and so there's already have a large amount of video content on Facebook. It looks like having a centralized area to browse and discover those videos is their play.

Don't know how I feel about this...
I want YouTube to have competitors, but I hate Facebook.
Hmmm......

honestly and sadly at the same time, Facebook is probably one of the few companies with the resources and userbase to pose as a real competitor to YouTube.

Nice! I've been waiting to hear more about this. Though it was set for a June/July launch.

Depends. One of the things that I hated about Google is that, at first, they almost immediately try to force you to get on Google+. I've noticed that, at first, Facebook was doing its best to get you onto Instagram. I think if FB makes things simple and easy, it would be much more fun to post up videos onto their network. Also, if monetization is easier on FB, then I DEFINITELY would be much more interested.
