New York City on Tuesday held its annual Halloween parade just hours after a deadly terror attack left at least eight people dead.
New Yorkers turned out in costumes for the 44th Annual Village Halloween Parade, dancing to live music along the route.
Participants said they chose to attend despite the attack in order to show their resilience.
“This is my third year here and nothing could keep me away,” one person told NY1.
“Here in New York we’re fighters,” another said.
Announcers from NY1 chose not to wear costumes out of respect for those killed and injured in the attack, they said during a lifestream of the event.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) also marched in the parade.
