Oddly enough I was just writing a post about a bygone era and when I finished it and switched to my FB page I saw that a legend of that era is dead. Charles Aznavour, famous French singer, dead at 94.
The irony is that his most famous song - ‘La Boheme’ starts with lyrics that say something like: ‘I’m talking to you about a time those younger than 20 don’t know about’. More than 20, I suspect, as the song was about a long lost Paris of artists, the bohemian Paris no longer exists.
Being a French speaking singer and actor I don’t know how many have heard of him, but it is worth mentioning that in 1998, a CNN/Times poll had him crowned Entertainer of the 20th century, beating legends like Frank Sinatra, Bob Dylan and Elvis Presley.
Besides his artistic career, Aznavour was one of the biggest figures of the Armenian diaspora, so I think his death will be felt as a great loss in his country of origin.
For all of the above, I think this moment is worth a mention on the blockchain. Oh, by the way, I saw somewhere October 1st is the International Day of Music, which makes his death all the more poignant.
As I was saying in another post we are the sum of all the music we enjoyed at different points in our lives. I grew up listening to French music because that's what my parents liked and even though my tastes in music have changed, 'La Boheme' is stored somewhere in my mind. Right next to the Sinatra file. And Dylan, of course. My previous post was about science, but I think music is really our greatest invention.
When you have such eclectic tastes, it makes the world a richer place to enjoy.

Making this short post is more journalistic reflex than anything else, but in a sense having loved wildly different kinds of music does make me feel richer.
