The authorities are currently searching for the suspect, who is described as an adult Asian male. Police vehicles were seen converging around a white van in Torrance, California which is the same type mentioned by the Los Angeles County sheriff during a press conference discussing the search for the suspect. The Sheriff, Robert Luna, stated that it is possible that the suspect is inside the van, but law enforcement is not sure. The incident is being treated as a "barricaded suspect situation" and the authorities are withholding the name of the suspect to not inhibit their ability to potentially arrest him. The victims include 5 men and 5 women. Some of the injured have been taken to area hospitals with conditions ranging from stable to critical. The police are also investigating a possible second scene at a dance hall in Alhambra, about 2 miles north of Monterey Park, where a group of people had wrestled a gun away from an Asian male suspect.
