This is big news.

Here’s a prediction: the Spanish government will commit countless human rights abuses while the EU and other western powers are silent or even supportive of Spain’s claim of dominance over people who no longer consent to their rule.

If government is actually given legitimacy through consent of the government, then it stands to reason that Catalan should be able to peacefully separate. It is apparent through the record of history that when people no longer consent to a larger government, the imposing power simply acts as any other mafia would by forcibly asserting its protection services.

If US president Donald Trump really wants to stir the pot, he could recognize Catalonia as it’s on sovereign country. Unfortunately, he won’t.
