Either way, the damage is done. There are millions of 'low-information' voters who will go to their graves thinking Russia hacked our election.
The psychology/sociology is interesting. The tacit admission is obvious, so why don't the left all coordinate a reasonable response? I guess it's a combination of factors:
- they don't want to give up on the story.
- there's no way to read how many people know of the Nation report or whether it's believed.
- the coordination of a response
It would be interesting to see a coordinated attack from the right based on this. This is also the first I've heard of this, but I've been mostly unplugged lately. Is there also some secret meaning to this lack of response? Perhaps the other side is happy enough with the story slowly dying. To push back on it would, in a way, be an attack on the state.
I'm sure all the people I saw post ridiculous Trump/Putin memes will quickly post their mea culpas.
