UN Human Rights Council Just Got Better!

in news •  6 years ago

On Tuesday, June 19th 2018, US announced the decision to abandon the UN Human Rights Council. Fantastic news!

Let’s just analyze a bit from the beginning of Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s opening statement:

Pompeo: “The Trump administration is committed to protecting and promoting that god-given dignity and freedom of every human being. Every individual has rights that are inherent and enviable.”

Everyone but that guy, Julian Assange, right, Pompy?

Pompeo: “They're given by God and not by government. Because of that no government must take them away.”

Except US government, which is clearly above God, right, Pompy?

Pompeo: “For decades the United States has led global efforts to promote human rights. Often through multilateral institutions while we have seen improvements in certain human rights situations for far too long we have waited while that progress comes too slowly or in some cases never comes.”

OK, Pompy, here is a short list of your “global efforts to promote human rights”:

Pompeo: “Too many commitments have gone unfulfilled. President Trump wants to move the ball forward. From day one he has called out institutions or countries who say one thing and do another.”

You mean commitments like JCPOA, right Pompy? What was the institution that has closed that deal?

Pompeo: “That's precisely the problem at the Human Rights Council. As President Trump said at the UN General Assembly it is a massive source of embarrassment to the United Nations that some governments with egregious human rights records sit on the Human Rights Council.”

Did you mean governments with egregious human rights records, like Saudi Arabia which has a penchant of beheading people, and is at the helm of the Human Rights Council because of your government, Pompy? Or your government who has just promoted torture-loving war criminal to the top position of the most important Intelligence service?

Pompeo: “We have no doubt that there was once a noble vision for this council. But today we need to be honest. The Human Rights Council is a poor defender of human rights. Worse than that the Human Rights Council has become an exercise in shameless hypocrisy with many of the world's worst human rights abuses going ignored and some of the world's most serious offenders sitting on the council itself.”

But not any more, right, Pompy? You are really going out of it?

Pompeo: “The only thing worse than a council that does almost nothing to protect human rights as a council that covers for human rights abuses and is therefore an obstacle to progress and an impediment to change. The Human Rights Council enabels abuses by absolving wrongdoers through silence and falsely condemning those who commited no offence.”

You mean like protecting Israel with your veto power no matter what it is doing, right, Pompy?

We could go really long like this, but you can already see how Pompy is full of it.

Haley: “For too long the Human Rights Council has been a protector of human rights abusers and a cesspool of political bias.”

See, Pompy? Even your ambassador in the UN can’t find diplomatic expression.

Haley: “Being a member of this council is a privilege and no country who was a human rights violator should be allowed a seat at the table.”

And I must say, for the first time in my life I tend to agree with that… whatever she is:

It is really big progres when the greatest human rights abuser removes itself from the Human Rights Council. Which may not be good news for the migrants to US and its own citizens, but at least the rest of the World can take a breather now…

Are you serious?????
"... Saudi Arabia on Yemen. The United States provided intelligence and logistical support for the campaign, and closed with Saudi Arabia largest weapons contract in history, creating the worst humanitarian disaster ever."
Are you saying the humanitarian disaster in Yemen is the worst ever? That's an outright lie, falsehood and demonstrates tremendous ignorance. It's not even the greatest humanitarian disaster right now, or in the last 10 years!

In response to;

"Did you mean governments with egregious human rights records, like Saudi Arabia which has a penchant of beheading people, and is at the helm of the Human Rights Council because of your government, Pompy? Or your government who has just promoted torture-loving war criminal to the top position of the most important Intelligence service?"

Yes, it is a travesty that Saudi Arabia sits on the UNHRC, as well as Cuba, Venezuela, Iran, Ukraine, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Qatar, China, Mongolia, the Phillipines, and others. How are you OK with US participation in this council?

America is the most benevolent world power to ever have existed. The British set the model, but America carried it forward.

In response to "You mean like protecting Israel with your veto power no matter what it is doing, right, Pompy?", then your implicit assumption that Israel has committed human rights abuses is wrong. Israel has the cleanest records regarding human rights of any nation that has ever fought a war. You also seem to be forgetting the anti-semitic racism experienced by Israel in every UN forum / organisation. Why do you deny Israel the right to live in peace and security?

The hatred in this article is just sad, I pity you @lighteye.

FYI - Nikki Haley is awesome! I would love to see her become president.

I know it’s hard for you to swallow the truth, but you will have to:

Are you saying the humanitarian disaster in Yemen is the worst ever? That's an outright lie, falsehood and demonstrates tremendous ignorance. It's not even the greatest humanitarian disaster right now, or in the last 10 years!

It is not me saying that. It is what UN says:

(CNN)—The war in Yemen is now the world's worst humanitarian crisis, with more than 22 million people -- three-quarters of the population -- in desperate need of aid and protection,United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres said.

Go ahead, feel free to list in your text ONE worst humanitarian catastrophe in the World, for example, since the British conquer of China. And BTW, it is CNN report, and you look like a truth hater built up on corporate media.

America is the most benevolent world power to ever have existed. The British set the model, but America carried it forward.

Like the list is showing, right?

Why do you deny Israel the right to live in peace and security?

Nobody is “denying Israel the right to live in peace and security”. Everybody in the UN is denying Israel the right to commit genocide over Palestinians. It is not the same. Zionist thesis is that anybody who is denying Israel the right to commit genocide over Palestinians is actually “denying Israel the right to live in peace and security”. It’s not the same and no truth hater can deny that.

In regards to "I know it’s hard for you to swallow truth, but you will have to:"

You may almost have me here. the scale of the disaster in Yemen has indeed grown to a horrifying scale.

In regards to "Go ahead, feel free to list in your text ONE worst humanitarian catastrophe in the World, for example, since the British conquer of China. And BTW, it is CNN report, and you look like a truth hater build up on corporate media."

Well Syria as a current disaster. I thought that entailed the scope of your comment, but then you went rattling off about the british invasion of china. Humanitarian disasters that significantly outweigh what is happening now in recent history would be the 2 world wars for a start, and there's a long list that would follow, and is quite obvious and clear, so let's give you th benefit of the doubt and assume you only mean current disasters.

In regards to "Like the list is showing, right?"

I can only assume you don't understand what benevolent means... but here's a tip, it doesn't mean that a country isn't involved in numerous violent conflicts.

In regards to "Nobody is “denying Israel the right to live in peace and security”. Everybody in the UN is denying Israel the right to commit genocide over Palestinians. It is not the same. Zionist thesis is that anybody who is denying Israel the right to commit genocide over Palestinians is actually “denying Israel the right to live in peace and security”. It’s not the same and no truth hater can deny that."

That's another outright lie. You subscribe to racist and ignorant blood libels, such as the one invented about how jews drink the blood of christian children during the festival of passover, and so you drown out thought by declaring the goals of zionism. Zionism is simply the movement of the jewish people for self-determination, a right that has since (and rightly) been accorded to many distinct groups of people. Where has there ever been a genocide of arabs committed by jews? It's simply ludicrous to make this sort of outrageous statement. If anything, the fear for jews in Israel is that the largest threat from the arab neighbours is demographic, IE that they will become more numerous than the jewish population. How would this be possible if there was a genocide?

Your accusations of genocide are baseless, and indicative of a desire for Israel (and the jews that live there) to be destroyed.

I see no facts in you text.

You are a true jewel — denying one crime by citing another of the same criminals.

Syrian crisis is also provoked by the US and its Gulf allies. And Syrian crisis is not a greater catastrophe only because Assad stayed in power. It does not encompass 75% of population, and Syria has 18 million. Assad government is providing more than enough sustenance for all the people (over 70%) on the controled territories.

I can see nothing worthy in your comment, except maybe your infatuation with Nikki Haley. I wonder how she can become POTUS. Will she campaign against Gina Haspel for the first woman POTUS?

I keep feeling like we're not reading the same thing. You ask me to name a worse crisis than the one in Yemen, I say Syria, and you tell me I'm now denying crimes in Yemen? I'm genuinely interested in how you reach this conclusion.....

The Syrian war was not provoked by the US. They got involved late, and unwillingly during Obama's term in government. It was when Syrians inspired by other uprisings around the Arab world decided to try and replicate the situation, but ended up with a series of outside interests subverting their cause to their own interests.

I honestly couldn't tell you how many of Assad's people he is able to feed, as I don't have accurate information on that. I would challenge you on your numbers though. Where did you get them? How can we know they are accurate?

I've noted how you you have ignored my comments on your being an anti-semite, but at least you're being honest when you don't refute it :)
And come on, who doesn't love Nikki Haley? A truthteller to behold!

Your comments are worthless propaganda without a single fact — a loss of time really. You could hear witnesses from the ground of Syria if you wish, but I guess you know better then these people:

What irony in that you accuse me of propaganda, and yet you post a video report from a fake UN body that doesn't exist, and a racist accusation that Israel and the jews are responsible for the Syrian war, which was designed to enrich themselves.

I am highly amused to see that you've given up on using any thought in your response, and have returned to posting lies you do not bother to verify.

Willing idiots such as yourself, enable the tragedy being self-inflicted by the Islamic world. It's truly a shame.
