To learn as much as possible about DIY powerwalls, lithium batteries and electric cars in general we’ve (and by we I mean John actively and Lily passively) been watching several YouTube channels of people out there actively doing the stuff we’re looking into. We’ve talked about Average Joe a little during one of our posts in the past involving laptop batteries. On a live show recently, we poked fun at his packaging for the batteries we ordered from him to which he explained why it was necessary to “tape the living shit out of it”.

There are a couple of big names on Youtube that are that way partially because of how they interact with the viewer. Average Joe is an example of that but another example and the reason for this post is Jehu Garcia.

We shared that we got these used car batteries but we didn’t really mention that we got the link for them through Jehu Garcia, a YouTube electric car legend of sorts. He’s also known for his posts on Powerwalls as he’s built several of his own and now has an off grid setup with the addition of solar panels. As these things gain in popularity he’s become more popular to the point where he was featured in a recent Motherboard piece on DIY Powerwalls.

He’s interesting to us for many reasons. He started his life in the United States as an illegal immigrant from Mexico and never finished school (smart man). Despite that he spends his time making awesome videos about stuff that’s both fun and important. He also has converted his Volkswagon Bus to electric and has driven and helped to build other models. He’s a geek for lithium batteries and it shows in the fact that all of his projects are really centered around them. He does live videos where he answers questions which is pretty cool and we’ve done our best to get him on Steemit and Bitcoin as have many of his other followers seemingly.

We’ve been looking forward to this piece watching his recent videos as he got ready for the interview. It’s now recently been released and while watching it we determined we wanted to share it all with you. Our only complaint was that Motherboard initially didn’t even link Jehu’s Youtube Channel in the video description. But the fan base spoke and literally called Motherboard rude for not linking it, to which they got their shit together and linked it. We found that pretty funny.
