in news โ€ขย  8 years agoย

We are tired of seeing news that goes back the state of our world. There is no stopping to see how year after year, natural disasters wreak havoc on some population, some political scandal makes us lose confidence in governments or some new war conflict erupts taking the lives of miles of people.

Fortunately, the world is much more than that, a weight of what we see constantly in the news, also happens things that decompose even if they go unnoticed.

Below we show you 20 news that will make you recover the hope in humanity:

1. The "Ice Cube Challenge" campaign was used to fund a medical discovery โ„๏ธ

The famous challenge of the iced water cube funded a real study that identified the genetic cause of ELA. Advance the experts on the disease, cure or prevent ALS in the future.

While it is true that the movement did not receive good reviews from all over the world, this is a real test that shows that "slacktivism" can have a great reward.

2. Say goodbye to 40% of oceanic plastics โ›ด

At this very moment, more than 5 billion pieces of plastic float uncontrolled by the ocean gravitating towards one of the world's 5 major garbage patches.

Fortunately, the 'Ocean Cleanup Project' hopes to eliminate 40% of that plastic over the course of ten years. The system operates autonomously from its launch through the energy generated by the ocean currents. Within thirty years, oceanic plastic debris can become a mere memory.

3. China plans to end ivory trade โ˜‘๏ธ

China plans to end ivory trade by the end of 2017. If China's ivory market is restricted, an estimated 20,000 lives of elephants per year are saved.

4. The giant panda is no longer an endangered species ๐Ÿผ

The International Union for Conservation announced that giant pandas are no longer in danger (officially). The census of pandas shows how the population has increased from 1,596 individuals in 2004 to 1,864 without including puppies. There are currently 67 reserves in China covering nearly 15,000 square kilometers for pandas.

5. NASA manages to send a spacecraft to investigate Jupiter ๐Ÿš€

Last year, NASA's Juno spacecraft flew 1,287,475,200 kilometers to reach Jupiter and explore the planet's radiation belts in hopes of unraveling its formation and transformation. Who knows, maybe also learn a little more about the process of creating the solar system.

6. Canada protected 85% of the world's largest coastal humid temperate forest ๐ŸŒ„

Canada has won a 20-year battle to protect the largest humid coastal wet forest on the planet, known as 'The Great Bear Rainforest'.

Environmental activists, forestry companies and representatives of Canada's First Nations agreed to protect 85% of the forest, allowing logging activities to continue cautiously for the remaining 15%, following the most stringent protection standards in North America.

7. Measles has been eradicated from the Americas โš ๏ธ

The Pan American Health Organization and the World Health Organization announced that measles has been completely wiped out of the Americas, both North and South. It is the fifth disease to be eradicated from the Americas with preventive vaccines and will prevent the 2.6 million deaths caused by the disease from occurring before vaccines began in 1980.

8. Colombian government and FARC rebels signed a peace agreement โ˜ฎ

As a culmination of four years of failed negotiations and referendums, the Colombian government and FARC rebels reached an agreement. The conflict has lasted 52 years, killed more than 220,000 people and displaced more than 8 million people from their homes. The new agreement limits the permanence of the rebels to specific areas and the delivery of arms to the ONU.

9. Manatee leaves list of endangered species ๐Ÿก

The US Fish and Wildlife Service UU. Proposed reclassifying the manatee so that instead of being an "endangered" species it would be a "threatened" species. Neither sounds good, but this is fantastic news. Only in Florida has there been a 500% increase in the manatee population, reaching 6,300 in January.

10. China prohibits the exploitation of certain coal mines โ›

China announced that it will close 1,000 small coal mines and did not approve the opening of new ones for three years. Although it is a small step for such a large country, it is symbolically a big step towards renewable energies. This measure is a continuation of the decline in energy consumption of fossil fuels in recent years, indicating that a definitive change in the energy sector is imminent.

11. Malawi saw its VIH rate decline by 67% ๐Ÿ“‰

The first VIH case in Malawi was diagnosed in 1985, since then the disease has spread to reach an infection rate of 25% in early 2000. Fortunately, the program started in 2004 to treat the disease has seen reduced that number One Rate of 10% in only 12 years, thus avoiding 260,000 VIH-related deaths.

12. Israel produces 55% of fresh water from seawater ๐ŸŒŠ

Israel has developed a bomb that turns sea water into fresh water only ten miles from the city of Tel Aviv. This new technology provides enough potable water for 1.5 million people and has become the answer to the worst drought that Israel has experienced in 900 years.

13. Scientists developed a vaccine against Ebola with a success rate of 100% ๐Ÿ”ฌ

The outbreak of Ebola was one of the worst epidemics in recent history. Fortunately, after much effort, a new vaccine has been developed with a 100% success rate. This will put an end to the 11,000 deaths in and around Guinea, reducing the number of infected to 28,000. The trials were funded and supported by the pharmaceutical company Merck, WHO, and the governments of Canada, Norway and Guinea.

14. Costa Rica's electricity grid can run on renewable energy โ™ป๏ธ

Costa Rica operated 100% through renewable energy for 76 consecutive days. The small size of Costa Rica and its dependence on industries that do not consume much energy contributed greatly to this success. However, this is strong evidence that fossil fuel consumption can be reduced by using a variety of energy sources at the regional and local levels.

15. 20 countries created protected marine parks ๐Ÿฌ

Last year, 20 countries pledged to protect marine environments (some of the largest in the US and UK). The announcement came at 'Our Oceans Conference' at Georgetown University in Washington D.C. 17. Einstein's theory about gravitational waves has been demonstrated โš›๏ธ

100 years ago, Einstein theorized that space and time are intertwined; however, the idea that black holes existed was something like a presentiment to put it somehow.
