25 shops were burnt down in Leda unregistered Rohingya Shibir market in Hannala union of Teknaf of Cox's Bazar. The incident took place around 8:30 pm on Wednesday night.
Leda unified Rohingya Shibir management committee general secretary Amir Hossain told the first light that the fire started from a tea shop in the adjacent market near Rohingya camp on Wednesday night. People from Rohingya camp tried to control the fire with buckets and pitches. Taking the news, Teknaf Fire Service members burnt 25 shops and a school house before reaching the spot. He said that the market contained grocery, vegetables, dried rice, two chicken shops, three tea shops and a school room.
Though the amount of damage can not be known immediately, there can be an estimated loss of 15 lakh rupees. No casualties were reported in this incident. Teknaf Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) said immediately after the incident. Zahid Hossain Siddiqui and Inspector of Police Station (OC-Investigation) Sheikh Ashrafuzzaman visited the spot. UNO Md. Zahid Hossain Siddiqui said an investigation committee will be formed in connection with the incident.
Teknaf Model Thana Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mein Uddin Khan confirmed the incident and said a team of police has been sent to the spot after the news.
Teknaf Fire Service Station leader leader Selim Uddin said a few shops and a school house were burnt in the fire.
