Underground mining cities and their inflated prices

in news •  7 years ago  (edited)

A South African city called Welkom in the Free State has seen an increase in underground cities with rise of the so called Zama-zamas.

Zama it basically means "Try."

The Zama-zamas go into mines some mines "Trying" to find as much gold as possible to sell on the black market.

Some of the mines have been closed off and some there are operation running on a daily bases.

Legalise zama zamas: 'Miners not hurting SA'

The have been many reports of death especially with mines that have been closed off and not managed.

So clearly going underground it is very dangerous and in most of the cases they stay underground for months and months without resurfacing.
Going underground for months raises needs for certain things which brings us to the inflation of prices underground.

Millions of rands in sex, food and alcohol is being traded in secret underground cities linked to illegal mining activities in small towns such as Welkom in the Free State.

At the time of compiling this blog $1 USD to R12.73 ZAR so divide the price by 12.73

  • Toilet paper is R300 per roll (about $23.56)
  • Sex with a prostitute comes at R2 500 (about $196.39)

"There are entire towns down there. People go down specifically to sell. Some go down for sex. That costs R2500. The sex is from either prostitutes that are brought down or from legal women miners. When they take their shift breaks they meet the illegals for a few hours"

Even legal mining women tend to go that side of mine with the Zama-Zamas to have this expensive underground sex...image sleeping with 4 guys during a lunch break ($196.39 x 4 = $785.56) about R10k no tax.

👌 Thanks...glad you did

it is ok :))

This is happening right under our noses, but I'm not even surprised. Wonder if it is happening in other countries as well. Thanks for the share!

Yes @roninza ...The problem comes when they get trapped underground and someone else must go out to rescue them...risking their lives again.

hard work

@doitvoluntarily yes...but very risky!! 👀 👀 👀

At first I thought there would be caves with crypto mining equipment. Unfortunately, not

@anforo sorry but this is the real mining 😂😂😂👅

Wawww that really?

I guess the free-market can flourish anywhere.

@kyriacos Certainly I mean this has opened up a world of its own and its own market pricing...

Before paying R300 for toilet paper, I make a hole in the ground I just upvoted some of your postscotty 777

That's a lot of risk and effort for a barbarous relic, don't you think?

Its way too risky...but they make enough to survive but for me is not worth the risk...they must come join Steemit

No thanks to the underground for me!! that said, I think silver and gold may be ready to start moving up again. Here is an article I wrote breaking down some mining companies, the better of which should outperform the metals themselves by a wide margin. https://steemit.com/money/@motowngold/i-think-gold-and-silver-are-staging-for-a-run-here-are-some-mining-stock-ideas
