News: Plane Carrying Brazilian Football Team Crashes in Colombia

in news •  8 years ago

It was a piece of gruesome news that I woke up to today. A chartered plane has crashed outside Medellin, Colombia, Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2016.

The plane was carrying the Brazilian first division soccer club Chapecoense team that was on it's way for a Copa Sudamericana final match against Colombia's Atletico Nacional.

As of writing, the accident has claimed a total of 76 lives with only 6 survivors, out of which 3 are members of the soccer team.

According to Colombian authorities, rescue was hindered by the location of the crash, in a dense wooded area with no road access, and a rainstorm which did not allow helicopters to get close to the accident scene.

The rescue operations are on at present.
