in news •  7 years ago

The kegites club or the palmwine club is the most popular socio-cultural club in Nigeria. The club originated from the University of ile-ife (now known as ObafemiAwolowo University) the club was formally formed in (1962). The club had its first chief in the person of Late Professor olusegunAdesina. Since the formation, the club has under gone various kinds of transformation, for instance the club had its 1st female member in the person of L.S.F Dupe Ajayi, she was the 1st female to join the club in (1968). In 1974 the club started spreading to other schools in Nigerian with ilya du tractor (federal college of Agriculture AkureOndo state Nigeria ) as the first Ilya to get a keg of office (accreditation ) from the world head quarters.download.jpg
In 1986, Chief Anthony UzodinmaOgidi became the first and only Igbo man to be made a world chief and it was during his one year reign that the name of the club was changed from palm wine drunkards club to KEGITES club. This change was basically because members of the club were being connoted to be drunkard and irresponsible people. The club also modified its motto from the initial Palm wine, the basis of African Unity and world peace to Unity in Diversity!
From inception, Kegites club has remained one Supreme Club with branches in almost all institutions of higher leaving both in Nigeria and other parts of the world. As at this day the club has over 100 Ilyasis in Nigeria and overseas.
Outside Nigeria, we have in the United Kingdom ( ilya du queen), in Chicago (ilya du windy), in India (ilya du Punjab)
Late ObafemiAwolowo was the eternal Grand patron of the club and was succeeded by Ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo. Also other prominent people in our society have identified with club as committed members. The present Deputy Governor of rivers state Chief Tele Ikwu is a Chief of RSUST. Prof Wole Soyinka is a founding member. Dr Orji Kalu is a patron.

Others met in the bush, but we meet at the shrine.
People scamper for safety when others gather, but
people draw closer when we gather.
Lecturers who belong to the other groups do not
allow students to know about their membership,
but lecturers who belongs to us fight for our right
during senate meetings.
Others believes that every fuck up must be treated,
but we believes there is unity in diversity.
Others fly colours , but we regaliates.
They wear beret but we put on capito.
They drink blood but we imbibe holy water.
They speaks slangs, but we simply vibrate in
mother language which is Africa.
They say they are capping, but we say we are
vibrating.
Police arrest them when they gather, but police
joins us when we gather.
Their symbol is usually a skull but our symbol is
simply a palm tree.
They welcom new members through initiation , but
we welcome new members through liberation.
They do not allow people to observe them when
they shake each others hands, but we always do
our shining to the amusement of every one.
They call their leader capon, we call our leader a
chief.
They call their member some strange names, but
we call ours comrad.
They do not have an authorized place of gathering
on campus, but the school authority gave us a
placewherd we gather in campus.
They move around carrying arms and ammunition
,but we do not move around with any illegal cum
unfriendly material.
They usually end up with a pass or even rusticated
from campus, but we enjoy our good grade after
graduation.
Most fake corpers are usually their member , while
most of the original corpers belongs to us.
