WHO ARE THE REAL VICTIMS OF ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION?

In an all too familiar story, nine illegal immigrants died in Texas after being crammed into a sweltering tractor-trailer with over 30 other illegals. Twenty of the survivors were hospitalized in critical condition. These deaths are the proverbial tip of the iceberg given the numbers of illegals who die every year, particularly in the summer, trying to cross our southwestern deserts. Many illegals are robbed, raped and otherwise abused by those who make a living transporting them. When they reach our country, the freedom they seek is often illusory with many being sold into servitude, some forced into the sex trades and many more hiding out in forgotten neighborhoods ruled by gangs. When I hear liberals advocating for open borders and sanctuary cities, I have to shake my head at their stupidity. Where do they think these illegals are going to go? How will they support themselves? Who will pay for their health care? How will they integrate into our society, accepting our values? If they go to certain areas in cities like Los Angeles and purchase a fake driver’s license and a fake voter ID card, a fake social security card are they capable of living as we normally do? Can they drive a car? Can they understand our political system, our history? How will they enroll their children in school? So many tough questions, few satisfactory answers. For those of us who were lucky enough to be born citizens of this country, we need to recognize that in so many cases, we are not doing these people a favor by allowing them illegal access to our country. Fortunately, since the election of our current President, illegal immigration is down by up to 70%. Instead of bemoaning this fact, we should be grateful for the lives being saved. If this trend continues, with or without a wall along the border, we can start putting our efforts into reforming our legal immigration system to speed the process for legal immigration. But we can’t reach this goal by pandering to political correctness which, as if often the case, is getting people killed, many of them the very people the Left is yelling we should protect.
