John McCain: Planning funeral still not retiring ???

in news •  7 years ago  (edited)

Thirty years is more then enough time to make your mark as a Senator. More then enough time to achieve the bulk of what you are likely to achieve for the people of your state.

Meghan McCain seems to agree that her father, Senator John McCain has made his mark when she said said:

"My Father's legacy will be talked about for hundreds and hundreds of years."

Suffering from an aggressive form of brain cancer, Senator McCain is reportedly making funeral plans even down to the details of who he does not want to attend.

Yet he has still not resigned his seat in the Senate. Does he really believe there is no other person who could represent Arizona as well or better then he can in his current condition? Wouldn't he be better off resigning and sharing his wisdom with the new Senator that replaces him?

The election as a Senator was never meant to be a lifetime appointment. It does not suddenly make you royalty.

Nor is a Senate seat something that you can bequeath to an heir.

Yet Politico has reported several times this week that if John McCain's Senate Seat:

"becomes vacant, Cindy McCain (wife of John McCain) will be chosen to succeed John McCain."

Nepotism has never been a good look in America and it would not be in this case either.

Let the people of Arizona choose their new Senator.

Its annoying how politics all over the world is. Our leaders want to perpetually be at the helm of affairs. Whenever they leave the office, they hand over to their minions. Its annoying.
In my country Nigeria, my President is about 75 years old.
What the hell is a grandpa doing there?
Is there a scarcity of qualified younger ones?

Certainly not. What we have here is just recycling of leaders, since independence.
Appalling!

Term limits are the only answer.

Nigeria is not so different from the USA in that regard.

Term limit is good, but it should be coupled with age restrictions

Age appears to be a bigger issue then it is because there are no term limits plus they are allowed to continue as a Senator no matter how bad their health is and how it impacts their ability to do their jobs. There are rumors of Alzheimer's medication being delivered up there as an example.

But people should not be blocked simply based on age - it is important all segments of the population have the ability to represent us.

Ok. I get your point. But what worries me is the fact that in my country, since I was little there has been this popular saying that

The youth are the leaders of tomorrow

How then can we lead when 70 and 80 years old people still control the polity?

I agree - it is a huge problem

Yeah. It really is

We have a problem in the UK with professional politicians and vested interests..Like you we have families of politicians with a certain amount of nepotism going on..
A great idea has been corrupted. More so in the US than anywhere else. Mc Cain has used his "serviceman" card to keep him in office. A hypocrite and a real troublemaker where Trump and Russia are concerned. He's aleays trying as an ex serviceman to ferment trouble with Russia..Him, Clinton and plenty of others..Corrupt...
These evil people have taken the working class and ethnic minorities for a real ride in my view..
Thanks for article

MAGA!!!

Well said

Thank you, i think it's true..Everyone who can read knows how democracy has been hijacked by the rich and their lacky's.....

This explains John "the hero" Mc Cain..

Thanks to blackstone intelligence network for great video

Since this problem is in Nigeria, US and UK, I think its no longer a country problem but as a result of personal political greed and faulty policies.

i think you are right my friend...Wealthy ideological people control the world. That's a danger to us all..

Hello. I liked your post, keep it up. Good luck to you and have a nice day :)

Thank you

I don't think the fact that Sen. McCain is planning his own funeral is any reason for him to step down yet. (If that were the case, then anyone who plans their funeral in advance should retire early.) One could argue that a sharp drop in attendance at the Senate would be reason to step down, as would a cancer-related drop in cognitive abilities.

Then again, my inner stand-up comic is chomping at the bit to do a one-liner or two about drops in cognitive abilities going unnoticed in DC... :P

"One could argue that a sharp drop in attendance at the Senate would be reason to step down, as would a cancer-related drop in cognitive abilities."

Inability to attend to vote for such a long period of time, let alone do his committee work - should be enough of a reason to retire.

If I was his age with such a distinguished career and his medical conditions, I would hope a family/friend would sit me down and say - you have a great run, but its time to step aside and let somebody else pick up the batton.

I agree. professional politicians are the pits. especially those that trade on their previous career to give them kudo's and hoodwink the public into thinking they must be a patriot. In my opinion he's not, he works for vested interests in the arms industry and so tried to promote wars. Neo liberal wars..

"Suffering from an aggressive form of brain, Senator McCain..."

I too have suffered from aggressive brain. Lol.

Sorry for they typo - fixed now.

doesn't the state governor usually have a power to make an interim appointment in the event someone dies in office or goes to jail or whatever? Then that only lasts until the election of a new one. Didn't Rod Blagojevich get busted for allegedly trying to sell the interim seat?

They do - if he resigned today, an election for the seat would be in 2018.

If he resigns in a months time, then the election would not be till 2020.

that would explain the fucker holding out

Donald Trump was banned by John McCain to go to the John McCain funeral and by doing this John McCain made sure that all the media talks about at the John McCain funeral is Donald Trump. #JohnMcCain

If Trump were there, he'd want to be the centre of attention, either way. That's the way he is though, isn't it? Sad but true, that's Trump. A ridiculous excuse for a man who happens to be filthy rich, brought up pretty damned badly and intoxicated on the power he won (/ stole). So, I see things panning out pretty much the same, Trump-wise. As it's McCain's funeral we're talking and his wishes (and bearing in mind the insane crap Trump spouted about him), then it would be sending all the wrong messages to Trump if McCain suddenly forgave - so publicly - the nation's favourite draft dodger for all the shit he's said in the past.

Unless Trump apologises, totally out of character, this feud has to go all the way to the grave. Rightly so.

The truth will come out and everyone will know who no Name is......Q
