“Report to the Bolivian people and to the entire world: a coup d'etat is in progress, although I want to tell you that we already knew it before. The right has been prepared with international support for a coup d'etat, ”he said at a press conference at the Casa Grande del Pueblo.
He said that until now he endured "humbly and patiently" to avoid entering the confrontation and then declared "a state of emergency and peaceful mobilization to defend democracy."
He considered that the coup d'etat is expressed in the mobilizations that prevent the counting of the votes of the elections by destroying dependencies of the departmental electoral courts (TED) and the attacks on the tents of his party, the Movement To Socialism (MAS) .
During these days the dependencies of the TEDs of Chuquisaca, Potosí, Pando, Santa Cruz and Beni were set on fire, as well as tents of the ruling party in Oruro, Santa Cruz, Chuquisaca, Tarija and Cochabamba.
He condemned that the opposition does not guarantee guarantees for the work of the electoral authorities and that it intends to position a President when the official count of the elections has not concluded.
"We are not in colonial times, we are not in the time of monarchies to appoint presidents," he questioned, then reiterate his call: "Tell my colleagues, the Bolivian people, to organize, to prepare that we will defend democracy."
The call was made at a time when the national civic strike called by the National Council for the Defense of Democracy (Conade) and civic leaders in protest over the way in which the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) handled the system data of Transmission of Preliminary Electoral Results (TREP), which in its opinion generated justified suspicions of electoral fraud.
Morales, who has ruled the country since January 2006, insisted that he won the elections again and confirmed that he is "almost certain" that with the vote count in rural areas his victory will take place in the first round.
"Although the TREP count said we won, we are respectful of the official report that the Supreme Electoral Tribunal will provide," he added.
He then summoned international organizations, institutions and personalities to join his call for the defense of democracy. He said that for him “democracy is not only election day, democracy is permanent meetings with the different social sectors, not only with the peasant sectors”
