Food for thought # 25 - BMW X6 caught fire in Mauritius: Can we trust technology? [video]

in news •  7 years ago  (edited)

Yesterday morning around 10 am a BMW X6 car caught fire in the capital of Mauritius and we managed to get a great footage of the mishap.

Fire services came a bit late on the scene and we could get a great footage of the car in flames and how the fire was extinguished.

According to the car owner, he was driving towards the city centre when he notices some fumes coming out of the wheels. He stopped the car to check the issue only to find that there was an internal fire that has started in the engine area. Immediately he called the fire services but the car was completely burned down. The cause of the fire has not yet been identified but the good news is nobody was hurt.

Technology - Tread with cautious

Technology has greatly enhanced our living standards and we sometimes take it for granted. We don't understand the needs for proper maintenance and to inspect our daily tools before using them. The only time we take care of them is when they are already broken and need a fix.

What if we take care of our tools like we take care of ourselves. Will they last longer than they normally would be? There is a saying among drivers is that we should never trust metal. You never know when your car does something unexpected and the next stop is hospital or the heavens.

With the depleting resources of the earth, more irregular materials are being used to build the infrastructure around us. In the name of renewable and recycling, all new technologies, including our phones, are being made with more fragile materials. There is nothing wrong in using more exotic materials as they are abundant on the earth or can be mass produced but we should be taking care about how we use technology to ensure that it does not leave us at the wrong moment.

Can we trust technology or the corporations making those technologies for our consumption?

petrol leak, most likely from a fuel line...not really a technology issue is it?

This could be one of the reasons but look at how the car burnt. The materials used in the car are not geat resistant.

The trade off between security, resources and cost is at the disadvantage of the people.

We need to understand today's technology and take better care!

Cheers

Blimey that is a bit scary! I agree especially this day and age where we are trusting our lives more and more to technology. Thanks for the info
