Lauderdale County Coroner Clayton Cobler confirms Mariner Durant was found dead of an apparent gunshot wound Monday afternoon. He was found in the woods outside a home on 14th Avenue in Meridian.
Cobler says the initial examination indicates the shot may have been self-inflicted. Right now, the investigation is still ongoing.
Durant was a former Libertarian candidate for mayor, who dropped out of the race for what Durant initially said was due to "safety reasons." The coroner tells Newscenter 11 Durant's family has been notified.
