Gregory Hill Jr. 30, was killed in his garage when Deputy Christopher Newman shot him through Hill's garage door. Newman was responding to a noise complaint from a neighbor.

The Florida Federal Jury deciding the claim awarded one dollar each to his mother and three children, but the $4 award was reduced to four cents because the jury found Hill 99% responsible because he had been drinking.

Newman was found not responsible for the death.

After the decision the Sheriff’s Office issued a public statement that said in part: "We appreciate the jury’s time and understanding and wish everyone involved in this case the best..."
