Wrong writing letters can sometimes be fatal. Zcoin digital currency announced, because of wrong writing (typo), unidentified hackers managed to steal US $ 400 thousand or about Rp 5.33 billion.
Zcoin is similar to Bitcoin, a digital currency supported by cryptography and unrelated to any central bank.
Zcoin is based on Zerocoin, a software protocol developed to deliver a truly anonymous personal finance. Unfortunately, when implementing the system, Zcoin made a mistake.
"Yesterday, our team found a bug in Zerocoin implementation," said Community Manager Zcoin Reuben Yap in blog uploads as Techno
"There is one typo that eventually allows attackers to create large amounts of Zerocoin transactions," Yap added.
In other words, the Zcoin write down the wrong letters in their code allowing hackers to steal existing coins with multiple transactions. Yep stressed, there is nothing wrong with cryptography Bitcoin, typo is the main problem.
"This exploit happens because there are bugs in the code and not the weaknesses of cryptography. The bugs are caused by typing errors, then allow the attacker to re-use the valid proof and make a purchase transaction with Zerocoin," Yap wrote in the blog.
In short, it's human error, not because of a weakness in the Zcoin system, according to Yap.
"From what we see, the attacker is very sophisticated, he does a lot of things to disguise his footsteps through multiple exchange accounts and is very cautious when depositing and withdrawing for several weeks," Yap wrote.
Furthermore, Yap estimates, hackers have stolen 370 thousand Zcoin which is now almost everything sold, except 20 thousand Zcoin. While some have been absorbed in the market with a profit of about 410 Bitcoin (more than US $ 400 thousand or Rp 5.33 billion).
